Over the weekend, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders attempted to dine at a restaurant, Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia. Sanders tweeted about her experience at the restaurant.

She wrote: “Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left. Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so”

Sanders continued her call to respectful political discourse, a call that was championed by others in the White House. The hypocrisy is palpable. The Trump administration that trafficks in lies and insults is now hurt that they are being held accountable by the voters, and so they cry about respect.

On Tuesday, MSNBC’s Chris Jansing used clips of Sanders in the press briefing room to demonstrate that hypocrisy. Sanders claimed, “I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so.”

That claim, however, is inconsistent with Sanders’ own treatment of the White House Press Corp.

Jansing said, “I just want to play a few little clips from the press briefing room.” What followed were examples of some of the countless occasions on which Sanders belittled, berated, insulted, and disrespected the professional reporters tasked with keeping the public informed.

Jansing shared her experience working with fellow reporters in the White House saying, “I want to say, I worked in that room for 2.5 years and I have the highest respect for the level and quality of the journalists who work there every single day.” She continued, “These are smart, dedicated, hard-working people and she often questions their intelligence.”
